Omar writes a lot of letters and every once in a while, we like to rib him a little when his “youth” shows through. This is one of those times.
Old movies tend to repeat themselves … take IRON GIANT, for example. WTF, Omar?
(Editor’s Note: Omar writes a lot of letters and every once in a while, we like to rib him a little when his “youth” shows through. For the record, IRON GIANT isn’t what we’d call an “old” movie. LOL! Keep those letters coming, Omar, we love ’em.)
Hi Rob, moderators, and Post Geek Singularity,
When it comes to certain movies, I will occasionally notice when there are similarities to an older movie in terms of plot, but with a change done to make them feel different. Now granted, the movie can still be good, but I do still notice the similarities to the older film.
Iron Giant was like that. I really like the movie and watched it all the time as a kid, but I remember growing up thinking it was like E.T, but with a robot instead of an alien.
The same thing happened when I saw Bumblebee. I did like Bumblebee, but I remember seeing it and thinking it was like Iron Giant, but with a girl instead of a boy.
There have been God knows how many Die Hard knockoffs, so you can tell when they are similar but have something which makes them different.
The cliffhanger was pretty much Die Hard in the mountains, Air Force One was Die Hard on a plane, and Speed was Die Hard on a bus. I liked Speed and Air Force One, even though I noticed the similarities, but I found Cliffhanger just alright.
That was just something I noticed, where I will occasionally notice a movie having similarities to an older movie, in terms of plot, but I can still like it.
Thanks, live long and prosper.
Omar
