Imagination Connoisseur, Pasty Coppertop, thinks there might be more MCU than he can handle right now. Is this a case of too much of a good thing? Is it possible moviegoers will reach a point of superhero exhaustion and bring about the end of the MCU?
The MCU has met its match … and it’s the MCU.
Robert,
I am enjoying ‘Moon Knight’ after the first three episodes, but I feel a little trepidation moving forward and I will tell you why.
Marvel Studios for the past decade has been a staple of my movie and tv entertainment and now I am wondering if I still have the same fervor for it. My favorite movies have been mostly Phase 1 and 2 such as Iron Man, The First Avenger, Winter Soldier, and yes even Incredible Hulk.
Why do I like these?
Well, it mostly stems from them being very grounded films to me. Yes, they have comic book throughout the films, but it is more of a sprinkling than the whole movie. Thor, with the Rainbow Bridge, the Ice Giants, and Asgard to me is still grounded. It is about a “God” who needs to learn to be a man.
As I watch Phase 4 t I am missing some of the grounding of the characters. Movies and Tv seem to have more of a “wow” rather than a great character story. Is Marvel rushing to get content out or are they not sure which way to go? I can’t answer that.
Maybe the problem is my selfish expectations for what “I” would’ve liked to see of the characters.
Example: I would have liked to see Black Widow as a femme fatal in a dark espionage spy thriller or Shang Chi in a 70’s Hong Kong Kung Fu movie.
Were all these films and shows enjoyable, yes, but I am not rewatching them like I did the earlier films. Rob I may need you to be my psychiatrist and figure out what is going on in my head.
Congratulations on the house.
Now it is time to buy a home improvement book and add to your vast array of titles. Get yourself a tool belt and have fun with some power tools.
Talk to you this weekend and keep up the great work.
