Genre entertainment news that’s sure to bring a smile to your face.

Science (and a little history) on a Friday afternoon – just for fun …

Is it just me or does this recreated face of a Neanderthal look a lot like a Disney or Pixar animated character?  Then again, he also kind of looks like a few of my band mates when I played in my college’s marching band … but only after a few too many beers the night before.

Ah … we were all cavemen back then.

The SYFY website has an interesting article exploring the science behind Ridley Scott’s PROMETHEUS. Could “Engineers” have created life on Earth?

And as long as we’re in space … check out the animation made from the April 9th flyby of Jupiter by NASA’s Juno spacecraft. It’s trippy. (h/t to Space.com)

People who know me know I’m a big history buff. And my favorite period to study? The Middle Ages. In fact, I wrote a screenplay on the life of the Emporer Frederick Barbarosa my senior year for a graduate-level Medieval Studies class I was taking. So, I just had to share this great article from The Collector about the rise of Barbarossa (the Red Beard).

From a Galaxy Far, Far Away

So, just who are the Inquisitors in the new, Obi-Wan Kenobi series streaming on Disney+? This article on The Nerdist introduces you to every sister and brother.

Will there be a Darth Vader series on Disney+ someday? Probably. Should Hayden Christianson play Anakin/Darth in the series? Movieweb gives you three reasons why your answer should be “yes.”

A progress report from the showrunners for the Disney+ series, ‘Star Wars: Ahsoka’ … it appears Dave Filoni is directing episodes of the series (via Comicbook.com). Is that a good thing or a bad thing? You tell us.

Did you feel that disturbance in The Force? It was Kathleen Kennedy announcing that there will be even more content focused on the characters and events of the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy. Because the only thing better than a precocious, juvenile Princess Leia is a even more precocious, juvenile Rey. (h/t Movieweb)

Our Meme of the Day …

I’m not certain, but I think that may be a new kind of landing craft … LOL!

Life in the MCU …

It looks like the ongoing search for a director to re-boot the Fantastic 4 for the Marvel Cinematic Universe is reportedly far from over. This article on Screenrant provides some more details.

Mental Floss has done us all a favor and provided us with a list of twenty “super facts” we all need to know about the MCU’s Avenger’s movies. All we can say is: “Assemble.”

Thank heavens for this … it now appears the big controversy surrounding the “organic web-shooters” used by the Toby Maguire version of Spider-Man (and not by the Tom Holland or Andrew Garfield versions) has finally been settled. Check into the Den of Geek for all the “moist” details.

On a more serious note, it looks like the Multiverse of Madness will be moving to Disney+ in the near future and seems to be an indication that theatrical windows for films are continuing to narrow. Not good news for exhibitors. (n/t The Flickering Myth)

Random Movie News …

Warner Bros. is apparently in too deep on THE FLASH to even consider recasting Ezra Miller. The A.V. Club has the story.

Not sure what to watch this month? Here’s a list of 17 sci-fi movies for you to catch on Netflix and here’s a list of six new, original horror films coming out TODAY (Friday), including David Cronenberg’s CRIMES OF THE FUTURE. Enjoy.

Forty years ago, Steven Spielberg made the scariest suburban thriller ever. Check out the backstory on POLTERGEIST on the Inverse website.

Thirty years ago, Quentin Tarantino “dogged” the Tom Cruise hit, TOP GUN, in his own movie, RESERVOIR DOGS. In the clip (which was featured in this article on UPROXX), Tarantino explains how TOP GUN is secretly a movie about “a man’s struggle with his own homosexuality”). Is it just me, or does Tarantino’s rant sound a lot like one of those 4-hour MIDNIGHT METAL streams?

That’s it for today.

Does “stunt casting” work?

Does “stunt casting” work?

Imagination Connoisseur, ROBB, shares his thoughts on how Star Trek: Discovery handled its casting of Democratic politician, Stacey Abrams, as the president of a united Earth in the show’s finale. Personal politics aside, ROBB seems to feel Star Trek’s producers missed an opportunity to send a message about unity at a time when we could all use it.

Will Superman be returning in 4K someday?

Will Superman be returning in 4K someday?

Long-time PGS Member, Kenny Kraly Jr., writes in to the LET’S GET PHYSICAL MEDIA show to ask for their predictions on the possibility of getting more Superman movies out on 4k Blu-Ray.

On the topic of “Gatekeeping” …

On the topic of “Gatekeeping” …

Imagination Connoisseur, Jason Miller, writes a letter of support for ROBSERVATIONS host, Robert Meyer Burnett, who has recently proclaimed himself the Gatekeeper of Geekdom. Jason shares his experience defending RMB’s joke (made on Twitter) and arrives at an inescapable conclusion that everyone should probably take to heart.

Attention Star Command, there seems to be a problem with Buzz Lightyear

Attention Star Command, there seems to be a problem with Buzz Lightyear

ROADTRIPPIN’ co-hosts Robert Meyer Burnett and Mike Bawden respond to letters from listeners proposing a variety of reasons as to why Pixar’s latest animated feature, LIGHTYEAR, didn’t meet expectations during its opening weekend. Was it a result of bad casting, a strained relationship between studios, convoluted marketing or stronger-than-expected competition? No one is sure – but it’s possible the problem runs much deeper than an origin story for an action figure might let on.

How to accept Star Trek now so you don’t go insane!

How to accept Star Trek now so you don’t go insane!

Imagination Connoisseur, Adam Talley, writes in to explain how he now views the Star Trek franchise – a way that acknowledges the “good old days” so many OG fans pine for and the new innovations we’re seeing in stores, online, and in theaters.

Why is Obi-Wan the most boring thing about the Obi-Wan Kenobi streaming series on Disney+?

Why is Obi-Wan the most boring thing about the Obi-Wan Kenobi streaming series on Disney+?

ROADTRIPPIN’ co-hosts Robert Meyer Burnett and Mike Bawden discuss the broader implications of a question posed by an Imagination Connoisseur who asks why Obi-Wan Kenobi is such a boring character in his own series. In fact, one could ask why so many Star Wars series seem to be “running in place” and not really going anywhere with characters who don’t seem to be doing all that much. Is there a larger force at work here that no one seems to acknowledge? And where have we heard THAT before?

Does it make sense to remake good movies?

Does it make sense to remake good movies?

ROADTRIPPIN’ co-hosts Robert Meyer Burnett and Mike Bawden respond to a letter from an Imagination Connoisseur who asks why Hollywood seems content remaking and re-booting successful movies rather than making movies with “great potential” that might have not met expectations when they were first released to the public. As Rob and Mike point out, there’s a lot more involved in a successful remake than one might imagine.

Co-hosts Robert Meyer Burnett and Mike Bawden discuss Rob’s recent revelation that he is, in fact, THE GATEKEEPER OF ALL FANDOM and what Imagination Connoisseurs can now expect of him serving as the judge, jury and adjudicator of all things geeky. Plus interesting letters from fans.

In less time than it takes for a tribble to become a grandparent, here’s a list of the eight most interesting, Trek-related things we’ve found worth sharing with our fellow Imagination Connoisseurs …

Making a case for LIFE after ALIEN

Making a case for LIFE after ALIEN

Imagination Connoisseur, S’wak Props, thinks Ridley Scott could have done much better when it came to making a sequel to his 1979 sci-fi/horror classic, ALIEN. Instead of Scott’s ALIEN COVENANT, S’wak recommends you check out Daniel Espinosa’s LIFE which includes Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds among others in the cast.
