Imagination Connoisseur, Sam Schott, is having a hard time accepting the big “twist” at the end of SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME (the reveal that Skrulls have been masquerading as many of our favorite MCU characters). This may help set up the ‘Secret Wars’ series on Disney+, but does it break the MCU in the process?
Just when you thought you finally had the MCU figured out …
Greetings to you and the Post-Geek Singularity and belated best birthday wishes!
A recent letter criticizing the Marvel continuity lapses in Dr. Strange 2 concerning Spiderman/Peter Parker reminded me of the biggest disappointment (to me, anyway) in Spiderman Far From Home.
The post-credit scene showing that Skrulls were actually posing as Fury and others completely pulled the rug out from under the growing relationships we thought we saw during the film. How Peter develops dealing with Fury and Happy without Stark was, or so I thought, one of the best character arcs in the story.
Only to find out that it was all meaningless. And rendered meaningless just to tease future Marvel product – their version of Secret Wars.
From that moment on, NOTHING WILL EVER MATTER AGAIN. There is no point in putting any emotional investment in any character because we can’t know that it’s the actual character and not an alien poser.
While I did enjoy most of Spiderman No Way Home, there was that element of disconnect haunting the story.
That disconnect, plus the “Anything goes! It’s just another multiverse version!” doctrine, removes gravitas and verisimilitude needed even more in an action-fantasy story.
Your thoughts?
Thanks for your time and fine efforts. Please give extra good scratchin’s to your furry entourage for me.
